Go for the Gold!

Posted by Aaron Solly on Sunday, February 9, 2014, In : Articles
I learned something in grade eight that I wanted to share with you.

In the first month of junior high school, a school assembly was scheduled in the gym.  When I entered the gym, I couldn’t believe how many students filled it.  It was probably ten times the number of students we would have at an assembly at my elementary school.  There so many students that the gym’s four huge bleachers were full plus about ten rows of students were sitting on the floor.  As a grade eight student, I had to...

80% of the game is between your ears

Posted by Aaron Solly on Thursday, January 30, 2014, In : Articles

This is the story that inspired me to write my ebooks and create this website.

“80% of the game is between your ears”, is what my senior high school

basketball coach would say to us at our practices. He would say it at the

beginning of practice as he would walk around the center of the gym where the

entire team was standing in a circle, stretching.

“80% of the game is between your ears”, he would repeat out loud. The snickers

and rolling eyes from some of the players (myself included) could...

Change is your friend

Posted by Aaron Solly on Monday, June 24, 2013, In : Articles
Do you believe that change is your friend?

So many people are afraid of change.  Change is the one consistent thing in our life.

Take a look in the mirror and then take a look at pictures of you at five, ten, fifteen, twenty, and twenty-five years old. The reality is you are changing. You are always changing.

The mileage on your car changes every time you drive it.

The amount of food in your fridge changes every time you eat something from it.

If you are into sports, the players on your favorite t...

Everything is a gift

Posted by Aaron Solly on Sunday, April 7, 2013, In : Articles
My birthday is on December 25th so I have a bit of experience when it comes to receiving gifts.

My parents were very good about separating my birthday and Christmas so I felt like I was able to benefit from both.  Christmas time became a very exciting time for me. There is a joke in our family about how my mom needed to hide the Christmas edition of the Sears catalogue.  If I saw in in October or November when it first came out,  I would spend every day analyzing all the new and exciting toys ...

My good friend, Mike, shared this video with me.

I love the quote, "Why does the thrill of soaring have to begin with the fear of falling?"

What part of the video resonates with you? Feel free to share your comments on this blog

You have no problems

Posted by Aaron Solly on Thursday, March 21, 2013, In : Articles
What problems do you have currently in your life?
How are you dealing with them?

At times, life can seem like it is full of problems. There is drama at every turn. All we want is some peace and quiet yet it never seems to come.

It doesn't have to be this way.  There is a different perspective you can take.

You don't have any problems.

We only have problems if we focus on the fact that we have them. This doesn't we walk away from things happening in our lives.

It does mean that we take a differe...

What is your intention?

Posted by Aaron Solly on Monday, March 4, 2013, In : Articles
What are you really looking to accomplish from a conversation, a work meeting or your life for that matter?

When you are meeting someone for the first time, what are you saying to yourself about the purpose of the interaction?

If you are speaking to a client or perhaps a co worker, what is the ultimate goal of the conversation?

I have been asking myself these questions a lot lately.  It all came down to one key question for me,
what is my intention?

I have been working towards using this questio...

Reason, Season or Lifetime

Posted by Aaron Solly on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, In : Articles

A couple of weeks ago, my son and I were visiting with my parents at their cabin. I noticed a poem that my mom's friend had left at the cabin. I didn't have a chance to write it down, but I Googled it and found it instantly. :)

The poem is about how people come into our lives. Some are for a specific reason, some are for a short time and others are for a lifetime.

Reason, Season, or Lifetime

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
When you figure out which one it is,

What is the lesson?

Posted by Aaron Solly on Friday, June 22, 2012, In : Articles
Lately, while driving to and from work I have been listening to an audio recording of a talk by Michael Beckwith. He is the Founder and Director of the Agape International Spiritual Center.

Even when I am not listening to the talk, I hear Michael’s words in my head about one aspect of his message. He shares a shift we all can make. When in a challenge, we have an opportunity to ask ourselves...

What is the lesson?
Where am I to grow?
What needs to change in me?

This is about taking ownership o...

Remove your labels

Posted by Aaron Solly on Thursday, May 10, 2012, In : Articles

I attended the I Can Do It conference on May 5th of this year in Vancouver, B.C.

Wayne Dyer kicked off the day with a talk full of inspiration, insight, emotion and love.

One of the things he talked about was the importance of removing our labels.

He reminded us the labels we are given as soon as we are born. We are labelled as a boy or a girl. We are given a name. We are labelled by our weight and other measurements. We are called a good sleeper or a bad sleeper. A chubby baby or a skinny one....

So here is the thing...

Posted by Aaron Solly on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, In : Articles
You can be what you have always wanted to be.

You can write that book, sing to the world, teach all the children or bring peace to all.

All you need to do is focus on the good.

Two days ago, I saw Marianne Williamson speak at the I Can Do It! conference in Vancouver.

One thing she said was "Be about the good thing."

If you are always focusing on the good, what becomes your reality - goodness.

If you are full of goodness, how will you treat yourself - good.

If you treat yourself good, how will you ...

You can do it. Really!

Posted by Aaron Solly on Monday, May 7, 2012, In : Articles

You possess everything you need to accomplish everything and anything you want.

You just need to believe it.

Push aside all the noise.

The fear, the worry, the anxiety, the doubt.

You may have financial challenges.

You may have health challenges.

You may relationship challenges.

Here is the thing to really and truly remember...
We all do.  We all have challenges.

We need challenges to be able to reach our dreams.

Life for everything living thing has challenges.

Think about the challenges a baby bird has...

I get to feel

Posted by Aaron Solly on Friday, April 27, 2012, In : Articles
Here is a poem I wrote a couple of months ago.

I got to feel and it was painful,

I got to feel and it was scarey,
I got to feel and it was wonderful,

I got to feel,
I got to feel,

I got to feel and it woke me up,
I got to feel and it cleared my head,
I got to feel and it made me laugh again,

I got to feel,
I got to feel,

I got to feel and it shook my world,
I got to feel and it gave me a voice,
I got to feel and it is now scaring those around me,

I got to feel,
I got to feel,

I got to feel and now it is hi...

Step on a crack...

Posted by Aaron Solly on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, In : Articles
The  old saying, “Step on a crack break your mother’s back”, came to mind when I was out for a morning run the other day.

From when we were young, we learned funny sayings that stay with us as we get older.  They become imprinted in our minds. When we repeat them it brings back the feelings of being a kid and the memories from that time.

Now that I am a parent myself. I am open to looking at this saying in a different way.
What is the ultimate lesson from it? Yes, it is a fun saying, howev...

The real reason for...hockey

Posted by Aaron Solly on Saturday, April 14, 2012, In : Articles
It is playoff time for hockey right now. The road to the Stanley Cup is open for many teams and communities in North America.

Our home team is the Vancouver Canucks. Last year, the Canucks had an amazing journey to almost reach the ultimate goal - the Stanley Cup.

One thing that was amazing to watch was the community support for the team during this journey. Companies allowed employees to wear their jersey's to work on game day.  Communities had events to bring people together to watch the g...

The real reason for...blaming

Posted by Aaron Solly on Saturday, April 14, 2012, In : Articles
There seems to be a lot of blaming going on in the world.

The local governments, federal governments and world leaders are all under fire. Corporate leaders are in the mix too.

People not getting what they need. People what freedom, they want a voice, they want to be able to live, they want to be able to contribute to society, they want safety, they want the fighting to end.

When we continue to not get what we need or want, anger can occur. The anger tends to be directed at those who appear to b...

Who are you exercising for?

Posted by Aaron Solly on Thursday, March 8, 2012, In : Articles
Who are you exercising for?
 *People at work?
 *Friends?
 *Mom or Dad?
 *Strangers?
 *Someone you want to meet?
 *You?

I have been exercising since I can remember. I have over thirty years of exercising experience. :)

Here is what I have come to realize about my own motivations related to exercising.

When I choose to exercise for myself and me only, I will do it consistently with a real desire to be in shape and feel good about who I am. It clears my mind of negative thoughts and enables me to focus...

Help is right here

Posted by Aaron Solly on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, In : Articles
There may be moments in your life when you need help and you are not sure where to find it.

Wives always joke about how they have to force their husbands to pull over and ask for directions.
They are trying to get their husbands to open their minds to a new perspective. Although it may not always work.

I have no idea where you are on your life journey right now. I can imagine if you are visiting this
website, you are seeking help for some aspect of your life.

I encourage you to open your mind to f...

We are all responsible

Posted by Aaron Solly on Sunday, February 12, 2012, In : Articles
The world is changing and we can move with the change along with it.  The key thing we need to do is take responsibility.  No more blaming, judging, condemning.

If you are concerned about the gangs in your neighborhood, the governments use of your money, your financial situation, the homeless, the sick, the dying or world hunger...stop thinking and start doing.

The movie needs to start filming, ACTION!

The next time you catch yourself blaming someone or judging someone’s decision or shaki...

What is good?

Posted by Aaron Solly on Thursday, February 2, 2012, In : Articles
I attended a local Chamber of Commerce luncheon today.  The keynote speaker did a talk on how to have memorable conversations. She did an exercise with the group that was quite powerful.

She asked everyone to get up and meet six people.  We were all asked to introduce ourselves and ask a simple question, "what is good?".

I was very impressed with the energy shift in the room after doing this exercise. Everyone really opened up and were enjoying themselves.

The presenter pointed out that too...
